KRYSTEN CUNNINGHAM COMMISSIONED TO CREATE INSTALLATION FOR JARDIN DES IMAGINAIRES DU CENTRE D’ANIMATIONS ET D’INTERPRÉTATION DE LA CULTURE AMÉRINDIENNE (CAICA) DE VIVÉ IN MARTINIQUE

Krysten Cunningham, Artist Proposal for CAICA Martinique project

Krysten Cunningham has been commissioned to design an installation for the Imaginary Garden of the CAICA of ViVé, a new archaeological park on the island of Martinique. River of Stars is a star map that reflects the night sky during the late spring crab migrations in Martinique. The constellation shapes are based on Amerindian cosmology and embody a myriad of connected narratives that flow between man, animal, earth and sky.

FELICE GRODIN AUGMENTED REALITY PROJECT AT OOLITE ARTS IN MIAMI

Felice Grodin was recently a part of a series called Media Art Salon: Unstable Ecologies at Oolite Arts in Miami, FL. This salon featured Miami-based artists Felice Grodin, Fereshteh Toosi, Thom Wheeler Castillo, and Lee Pivnik, each of whom cultivate a mutualistic practice between technology and the natural world. “Ecosystems emerge from mediation with artificial intelligence, and we come to a new understanding of our place in this world through symbiotic exchanges between biological and computational processes. A softer side of digital transformation begins to take seed with interspecies refiguring of the technologies of power that are changing our lived experience. Felice is working with AI to explore texture and biological patterns, subverting machine vision by putting technology at the service of her augmented reality creatures evolved from local species.”

Winter Solstice marked the fourth and final chapter of Tempus volat, hora fugit by Christian Sampson at the MFA St. Petersburg, curated by Katherine Pill. From MFASP: “Translated as ‘time flies, hours flee"‘ from Latin, this mesmerizing four-part installation takes the viewer on an immersive journey through color and form in an opportunity to reflect on the enormity of the universe and our place within it For the grand finale, Sampson's sculptures grace the Museum's east vestibule, casting breathtaking shapes of colored light. MFASP invites you to slow down, soak in the splendor, and ponder the sublime vastness of time as radiant light and vibrant colors transforming their Mary Alice McClendon Conservatory.”

Christian’s work is also on view at MFASP in The Nature of Art, curated by Katherine Pill and Stanton Thomas. “The Nature of Art looks at the disparate ways humans have engaged in artistic expression to understand our environment, mediate our relationship with nature, and attain a more profound comprehension of our role within the world.”
